“Official doc” rows link to the manufacturer’s or ISP’s own documentation, via the ssid.ai router dataset (CC BY 4.0).
Credentials vary by model and installation date. The sticker on your router always wins.
Change the BT Wi-Fi password
After logging in: Advanced settings → Wireless → change the network name and password → Save. The My BT app can do this too.
Use at least 12 characters. Every device will need the new password to reconnect.
192.168.1.254 not opening? Fixes that work
- Connect to the router first. Use its Wi-Fi or a LAN cable — mobile data will never reach 192.168.1.254.
- Type it in the address bar, not the search box, and include
http://—http://192.168.1.254. Many routers have no HTTPS page. - Check for typos: only numbers and dots. The letter “l” or “o” in place of 1 or 0 will not work.
- Your router may use a different address. Check the default gateway (see above) or the label.
- Turn off VPN, proxy or “Private Relay”. They send traffic outside your home network.
- Try another browser or a private window, and clear the cache.
- Restart the router: unplug it for 30 seconds, then wait two minutes after plugging it back in.
- Still stuck? A factory reset restores the default address and password.
Still need help?
If the login page will not open or the password is refused, contact BT support: My BT app. A factory reset also works, but on ISP routers it can remove your internet settings — ask your provider first.
